Animate text and gradients

Animate by character, word or line while working with text layers.

The Text tab applies editable text animators to After Effects text layers. Choose a reveal that suits your headline, interface label or product message.

Animate text

  1. Select one or more text layers.

  2. Choose an effect in the Text tab and inspect its preview.

  3. Choose Based on, the direction and the animation length.

  4. Click Apply to Text Layer.

  5. Preview the composition and refine the text animators in After Effects.

Choose the right unit

Characters suit typewriter or detailed reveals. Words work well for short statements. Lines help reveal larger blocks with a calmer rhythm. The available effects include fades, slides, scale, pop, tracking, blur and typewriter styles.

Apply an animated gradient

  1. Pick two colours and an angle in the gradient controls.

  2. Enable Animate and set the speed if you want movement.

  3. Select the text layers and click Apply Gradient.
