Build a Matchcut transition

Matchcut swaps an outgoing scene for an incoming scene inside one composition. Choose a slide, zoom or path transition, then refine its movement and timing.

Set up both scenes

1. Select the outgoing layers and click Set from Selection under Scene 1.

2. Select the incoming layers and click Set from Selection under Scene 2.

3. Pick a transition. Hover its preset to see the preview.

4. Move the playhead to the point where the cut should happen.

5. Adjust duration, distance and easing under Refine, then click Apply Matchcut.

Check the handoff

Preview through the whole transition, including a little time before and after the cut. Make sure the intended layers belong to the correct scene and that the motion directs attention to the next screen.

Keep it readable

Use a consistent transition direction for a connected product flow. A restrained transition usually makes UI details easier to follow than a large movement on every cut.
