Figma import

Find and keep your imported assets

Understand the project folders, local files and Recent imports list.

MotionUI creates After Effects layers and saves the supporting files on your computer. Keep those assets with the project so After Effects can continue to find imported images and artwork.

Inside After Effects

Imported content is organised under MotionUI Imports in the Project panel, with the Figma file name and frame folders. Grouped imports also include precompositions.

On your computer

For a saved After Effects project, supporting files are stored in a MotionUI Assets folder beside the project. For an unsaved project, the fallback location is Documents/MotionUI/Figma Imports. Save the project before your first import when you want a predictable project folder.

Reveal an import

  1. Open the Figma tab in the MotionUI app.

  2. Find the item under Recent imports.

  3. Click Reveal to open its saved files in Finder on macOS or File Explorer on Windows.

Moving a project

Move the associated assets with the project. If After Effects reports missing footage after a move, relink it to the saved asset files. The Recent imports list is a status and location aid, not a substitute for a project backup.
