Connect Claude Code or Codex to After Effects
Register MotionUI’s local tools and verify the active composition.
Use Claude Code or Codex with the MotionUI tools connected. Ordinary ChatGPT and Claude chats are not supported clients for this MotionUI workflow. If you use Claude Code inside the Claude desktop app, choose the Code environment.
Connect the agent
Install the MotionUI panel from the After Effects tab of the desktop app.
Open AI in the MotionUI app and find Claude Code or Codex under Connect AI.
Click Connect, or Update if the connection needs refreshing. The selected client should show Connected.
Start a new session in the selected coding agent.
Open After Effects, the MotionUI panel and your target composition. Ask the agent to inspect its name and layers without changing anything.
What the connection needs
Install the chosen agent on the same computer and complete its sign-in. MotionUI uses Node.js to run the local tool server. If a prerequisite is missing, resolve the message shown in MotionUI and connect again.
Check the result
Compare the composition and layer names returned by the agent with your timeline. Claude Code and Codex are connected separately. A working connection for one does not configure the other.
