Animate in After Effects with Claude Code or Codex

Use Claude Code or Codex with the MotionUI tools connected. Ordinary ChatGPT and Claude chats are not supported clients for this MotionUI workflow. If you use Claude Code inside the Claude desktop app, choose the Code environment.

Once connected, your agent can inspect compositions, create layers, set keyframes and use MotionUI tools for animation, text, easing, sequencing, proximity and transitions.

Start with the scene

1. Open the After Effects project and the composition you want to work on.

2. Keep the MotionUI panel open and confirm that the MotionUI app shows an active connection.

3. Ask your connected agent to inspect the composition and describe its current layers.

4. Give it a focused animation brief, then review the result in After Effects.

A useful first prompt

Try: “Inspect this dashboard comp. Reveal the cards from left to right, move the cursor to the primary action and add a subtle hover response. Keep the existing layout and explain the proposed timing before applying it.”

Refine one thing at a time

Adjust timing, easing, distance or sequencing in separate requests. You can also continue editing the layers and keyframes yourself. Save your project before larger scene changes and review playback at the intended frame rate.
