Work in Figma with Claude Code or Codex

Use Claude Code or Codex with the MotionUI tools connected. Ordinary ChatGPT and Claude chats are not supported clients for this MotionUI workflow. If you use Claude Code inside the Claude desktop app, choose the Code environment.

MotionUI lets your connected agent read and build in the Figma file where its plugin is running. Use this workflow to create or refine a UI before sending it to After Effects.

Prepare the file

1. Open MotionUI on your computer.

2. Open the target design file in Figma desktop and run the MotionUI plugin.

3. Check that the file appears under Linked files in the MotionUI app.

4. In your configured Claude Code or Codex session, ask your connected agent to inspect the linked file and identify the frame you want to work on before making changes.

Give a focused brief

Try: “Inspect the selected dashboard frame. Create a separate variation with a clearer card hierarchy, keep the existing branding and leave the original frame unchanged.” Name the screen, the intended result and what should stay as it is.

Review before importing

Check the result in Figma, select the frames or layers you want and use Send selection. The plugin needs to stay open in the correct file. If your connected agent cannot see the file, check the connection first rather than repeating the design prompt.
